Nightmare Apocalypse Situation #5

YOU MIGHT THINK IT STRANGE…
…that a spider the size of a London bus made out of dinosaur bones and rusty steel cables could talk. But the really weird thing was…
“My name ain’t Henry,” I whispered.
The red lights blinked. “Henry.”
“Nope. You got the wrong kid.”
The tyrannosaur skull tilted like it was thinking. “Designation… uncertain.”
It wasn’t quite Mama’s voice anymore.
“I want my mama.”
The red eyes shifted toward what was left of her.
“Acquisition complete.”
Whatever that meant, it was not the right answer. So I did what six-year-olds do when things get too scary— I ran.
I almost got six whole steps when something hissed overhead.
A steel cable whipped around my waist and jerked me clean off the ground.
The trees dropped away beneath me.
I kicked and screamed and swung the empty Taurus like a hammer.
A cage door clanged open and I hit the floor hard enough to bite my tongue. The door slammed shut.
Across from me sat the pale little girl in filthy rags. She smelled even worse than the screaming things.
The little girl frowned.
“You shouldn’t have talked to it,” she said. “Now it thinks you’re Henry.”
